A coordinate without provenance does not prove how it was captured
For commodities other than cattle, the EUDR text requires polygons for plots larger than 4 ha. Nova Silva may apply a more conservative operational policy, but it must be labelled as policy rather than quoted as law.
What to preserve
Geometry
Point or polygon, reference system and the exact entity it belongs to.
Provenance
Capture method, date, source, operator and original evidence where available.
Area
Declared area and calculated area are distinct facts; disagreement requires review.
Status
Validated, pending, inconsistent or blocked, with reason and owner.
What must not be inferred
- More decimal places do not prove greater accuracy.
- A geometrically valid polygon does not prove land rights, legality or deforestation-free status.
- No technical error does not equal regulatory readiness.
